Alright, so today I’m gonna walk you through my little adventure with that Cooper Kelly baseball thing. Saw it online, looked kinda cool, figured, why not give it a shot?
First things first, I actually had to find one. Went to a couple of local sports shops, no luck. Ended up ordering it online, which, honestly, took longer than I expected. Finally showed up though, packed in a pretty standard box, nothin’ fancy.
Okay, so unboxing time! It’s a baseball, alright? Feels pretty good in the hand, leather’s decent. The stitching seems solid, nothing obviously wrong. Gave it a few test throws against the wall – bounced back like you’d expect. So far, so good.

Then came the actual “practice” part. I haven’t seriously played baseball since, like, middle school. So, yeah, rusty doesn’t even begin to cover it. Started with just some basic catch with my kid in the backyard. He’s way better than me now, haha. My arm was sore after about 20 minutes.
Next day, I tried some batting practice. Got a cheap tee from Walmart. Man, my swing is terrible. Keep fouling everything off to the right. Watched a few YouTube videos on how to improve my form, tried to adjust. Still not great, but I was at least making contact more consistently.
- Day 1: Catch with the kid, arm felt like it was gonna fall off.
- Day 2: Batting tee, embarrassingly bad swing.
- Day 3: More batting, tiny improvements, still suck.
I kept at it for a few days, trying to squeeze in some practice after work. I even convinced a buddy of mine who actually played in high school to give me some pointers. He mostly just laughed at me, but he did give me a few tips about keeping my eye on the ball and shifting my weight properly.
It’s been a week now. Am I ready for the major leagues? Hell no. But am I a little bit better than I was a week ago? Yeah, definitely. It’s actually kinda fun, even though I’m terrible at it. My kid’s enjoying it too, which is the main thing.
Final thoughts:
The Cooper Kelly baseball seems solid, no complaints there. As for the whole baseball thing, it’s a good way to get some exercise and spend time with my kid. Plus, it’s a humbling reminder of how out of shape I am. Might even sign up for a softball league, just for kicks. We’ll see.
Anyway, that’s my story. Maybe it’ll inspire you to pick up a ball and give it a throw. Or maybe it’ll just give you a good laugh at my expense. Either way, thanks for reading!
