Man, I gotta tell you about this crazy baseball practice I tried today. Saw a clip of Antonio Brown swinging a bat like a maniac and thought, hey why not? I mean, the dude’s an athlete right? Figured I’d test if football skills translate to baseball.
Getting Started
Dug out my old college bat from the garage – hadn’t touched it since 2018. Thing was covered in dust and spiderwebs. Hosed it down in the backyard, grabbed a tennis ball, and yelled at my neighbor Mike to come pitch for me.
First ten swings were pure comedy:
- Whiffed so hard on pitch one I spun around like a top
- Smacked my own knee on swing three (still bruised)
- Sent one foul ball straight through Mrs. Patterson’s tomato plants – oops
Mike’s laughing so hard he’s crying, but I ain’t quitting.
Figuring Things Out
Changed tactics. Tried copying Antonio’s stance from that YouTube clip – wide legs, bat way up high. Felt super awkward but kept at it:
- Started choking way up on the bat handle
- Stopped trying to murder every pitch
- Actually watched the ball instead of just swinging wild
After like fifty misses, finally connected with a “THWACK” that sounded decent. Ball flew over Mike’s head and smacked my shed. Felt amazing!
The Realization
Kept at it another hour. Sweating buckets, hands blistered up, but started making contact more often. Learned two big things:
- Football footwork means jack squat for baseball timing
- Antonio makes it look easy cause he’s a freak athlete
Ended up with exactly three solid hits out of maybe a hundred tries. Not great but hey, better than zero!
So yeah, baseball’s way harder than Antonio’s clip made it seem. My shoulders are screaming and I owe Mrs. Patterson new tomato plants. But damn if that one good hit didn’t feel sweet as hell. Might actually try this again next weekend!
