So I got this idea last week – why not make my own Pat Mahomes baseball jersey? Saw some NFL jerseys at the mall and figured baseball style would be cooler. Grabbed my old plain navy jersey from the closet, totally blank front and back.
Starting the Messy Process
First tried iron-on letters. Printed “MAHOMES” and “15” on transfer paper with my cheap inkjet. Big mistake. Peeling started right after I ironed it on crooked. Letters looked fuzzy and awful.
Ditched that and went hand-painting:

- Bought fabric paint – way too runny
- Cut cardboard stencil – bled under the edges
- Painted through stencil – ended up with paint blobs
Front was smeared like a preschool art project. Needed backup plan fast.
The Sewing Disaster
Found red and white fabric scraps. Tried stitching letters:
- Pinned wonky “M” to the back
- My sewing machine jammed three times
- Thread kept snapping when doing curves
After two hours? Crooked “MA” that looked like zombie teeth. Knuckles sore from hand-stitching.
Why Mahomes Anyway?
Truth bomb – this whole project started ’cause I was avoiding bills. Last month I helped my cousin’s startup for “exposure” instead of cash. Promised equity but got ghosted. Again.
While waiting for their reply that never came, I dug out that old jersey. Thought maybe making this could be my new side-hustle. Charged two buddies $40 each for custom jerseys. Both came out worse than mine.
Now they want refunds and my cousin still owes me $3K from the “internship”. Mahomes makes it look easy. Real life? Not so much.
